You are legally allowed to be in the US for 6 months as a Canadian citizen. You could always look for jobs during that time. However, without proper work authorization you can’t be legally employed. TN is easy enough but your employer needs to provide some paperwork to support your case at a port of entry. I’ve always had their legal team provide those for me . Since Trump came into power, less employers are sponsoring. Plenty folks on H1B had to leave, visa loteries harder to win etc etc.
I've been doing this for some time. Like the other poster commented, you can use that vacation time to "find an offer". You can also educate any potential employer that is unfamiliar with TN hiring.. let them know that the job offer letter is pretty much the only thing you need from them, and that the onus is on you to secure or obtain the TN work permit. The rest will fall into place.
ps: they will need to draft up another TN-specfic offer letter that is addressed to CBP. Take ur degree certificate, proof of Cdn citizenship and other papers and that's it.

Following ; one option is via TN visa I heard
TN as others have said (make sure your field somewhat falls into the accepted categories) or you can work for a US company in Canada and then transition to US side with L1. H1B is a total crapshoot and do not recommend relying on it (I failed H1B lotto twice and just opted for TN)
