As a general rule, how bad is it to test out the waters by applying to a job, getting the offer, and then rejecting it -“now’s not the right time” - while staying at your current company? Blacklisted?

If you really want to test the waters, talk informally with a career coach or a headhunter. Your suggestion sounds awful

Terrible idea, I did that a couple of years ago and got blacklisted by the recruiter. Another recruiter told me that the recruiter that extended me the offer refused to work with me, and she was the only finance recruiter for Microsoft 😭

I wouldn’t say “now’s not the right time”...more valid reason is comp related imo. But the tricky thing there is what if they do give you the comp you requested? Hard to back out of that if you’re just testing out waters

Probably not terrible in the long run but definitely don’t expect to ever get another interview, let alone job offer

Interesting that the consultant Exit Opportunity bowl seems lukewarm, maybe positive about doing this whereas this Finance bowl is a strong no.

I'm applying for a job and there's a line item where they ask for desired compensation. Since the job posting doesn't include one & that role in particular doesn't appear on Glassdoor, is it ok to write something like "negotiable" or "based on budget allocated for this position"? Or should I just include a range? I don't want to ruin a chance at a higher salary range by selling myself short off the bat. I haven't applied to jobs in years so any advice you all could provide would be appreciated!

Do you guys ever just tell recruiters that the process is taking too long and withdraw your application? This guy made contact with me 2 weeks ago, said he’d get an interview set up with internal HR, then ghosted me, then appeared out of nowhere and told me I had a call with internal HR the next. There’s 4 more steps after this. It’s just too much. I know that’s a normal timeline, but the point is it just takes too long now.

Had an interview with FB this week. Recruiter said they were going to schedule time with me to prep for the next round (which involved a case interview with a team member). Had the recruiter interview Monday morning and still haven't received any follow up. Is this normal considering recruiter told me on the call that I'd made it to the next round? What is the best way to respond? I was thinking about calling to leave a follow up message. Is this too much?
