Wait what? You don’t get to present your work? What agency is this? I’ve never had accounts present for me ever. They’re always there to support creative in presentations with points that align to the business goal but they never present creative.
It could just be the agencies you’ve worked for? I’ve been presenting to clients since like week 2 as an intern. Occasionally there’s big pitches where only one team or a CD presents for everyone, but for the most part I present all of my work. Do you shoot things ever? Because that’s always the best opportunity to get face time with clients through the entire production process.
I usually present my team’s work in CMO meetings. They just don’t like to have many people in the room. Not my favorite situation, but I give the teams as many opportunities as possible with lower level clients and always in internals. Presenting is a critical part of growth.
I’ve never presented creative work, simply have done the setup. Sometimes in an all hands they’ll have me present WITH creative to give further campaign details, but I typically don’t comment on the creative itself. All that to say, I’m curious what agency this is. That hasn’t been the norm in my experience but hope you’re able to push to present more of your ideas!
Rising Star
I always have my teams present their own work - unless they can’t. Some creatives are introverts or have an inability to do it. We work with folks all across the spectrum. The only exception is if the client is tough and I don’t want the inexperienced folks grilled in a way they can’t handle. Not all art directors and writers can properly sell and defend an idea. Even their own.
Senior creative’s presenting on behalf of juniors/mid level creatives is pretty common. There’s a lot of factors involved, i.e what the clients prefer, if the client is difficult, the personality types involved, etc. Presenting to your CD, whose job is to listen and help make your ideas better, is not the same as presenting to a client that interrupts every minute and actively tries to implode every deck they’re presented. So it happens.
But an account person presenting creative? Never heard of that happening and honestly it’s kind of weird that you’re mentioning it like it’s a thing when it doesn’t even seem like you’re talking about yourself?
Where is it happening? You should name and shame so others don’t move there
There are creatives who don't get to present their work? What? I have never heard of this.
What is “so many?” In my experience, creative is presented by creatives?
I get it. Keep doing good work, you’ll get there.
I get to present thank goodness but I know some AD’s who don’t :( happy to hear that other agencies don’t also have this issue
I think it depends on the client a lot of the time. If it’s a certain personality of CMO or a high-stakes pitch, GCD and ECDs have presented the work. Otherwise we’ve generally presented our work to client.
Why would the account team ever be presenting the creative work?!
It’s pretty standard that junior and mid creatives don’t present work to clients, that’s something you grow into as you advance.
You don’t mean account is presenting creative, right? Because that’s not normal. Heck, I did a stint in pharma and creative was still presented by creatives.
I’ve had ECDs and CDs present/lead meetings early on as a Jr. but have never heard of account teams solely presenting creative ideas. Sounds like a bad idea…almost like a workplace game of telephone
And that’s why this team forces AD’s to work 10x harder to meet deadlines for this exact reason!
Happened all the time when I was at 21grams
I’ve never gotten the opportunity to present my work and I was at my last agency for almost four years.
