UX Director/Strategist here - Ive always has my portfolio password protected since it contained a lot of non public IP and digital strategy for very large brands. But I just had my portfolio link with the password in my resume/cv. I don't think it ever hurt me, and if anything, I think it made me look like a trustworthy professional to whomever I was interviewing with. The lawyers just don't want to have the work widely available and accessible via Google searches and what not. In my personal experience my job searches were also driven by me and whatever recruiter I might be working with, and I never expected prospective hiring managers or leaders to just "come across me" online. I know advertising may be a bit different, but I don't think it's a really big roadblock in my personal experience.
This is annoying, but also, some brands are like this, so people get it. One thing you could do (that I THINK is legal, check with your lawyer), is talk about the work in your about me, then just have the work itself password protected. Then at least you can be like “I was part of some brand defining projects at Sneads Seed and Feed” and people who are just skimming your book will still get a sense of what you’ve accomplished without hunting down the passwords.
Yes, I have experienced this too.
My friend who works on Apple can’t put any of her work in her portfolio either.
You specifically? Or is it like a general rule?
why did you have lawyers involved??? they might be enforcing it due to circumstances with why you were leaving?
