How do you cope when your employer rapidly descends into chaos from the top down? Today is my 2yr anniversary with this company. In the past 6mos, they have repeatedly changed directions / goals, pushing out several supportive and productive managers in favor of a single chauvinist overlord who makes HR violations daily and does no actual work. HR denies every complaint made against him and he retaliates to the point of firing people. Very hostile. How do I survive until I find my next gig?

I find myself questioning basic politeness I’ve learned since a child. Wondering what everyone else thinks. I work with an associate. She’s great. When she does good work or something I’ve asked her to do, I, of course, say “thank you!” I don’t really expect a response. She always replies “you’re welcome!” Or some variation. And for some reason, that’s awkward. Is it just me? I know in normal manners, that is the right response. Why does it sit funny?

What is your understanding of the norms around whose names end up on a brief/complaint/motion papers etc.? I’m a midlevel at an AmLaw 20 firm and have twice been the principal drafter of something only to be cut from the signature block. The associate senior to me is on it despite having done far less of the work. And it’s not because it required a rewrite or something. The filed product is 80-90% my work. Am I wrong to be pissed off about this?

Hi. What do you do with a gaslighting boss and coworker in a small office? I also don’t feel like my boss even cares about me. Examples- there was a man with a gun in parking lot that I had to flee from and call police, he didn’t care- just asked me when I was coming back to work.😳 zero compassion. didn’t care I had a blinking light above my desk, waited two months to fix it though my eye was twitching! How do you say no to your manager if you have been asked to work in a shift and the work that you have to do has no relevance to your actual job.

Small firm (my boss, me, & a paralegal). After a hearing I did not handle, boss intended to seek review of the ruling in its entirety. What was communicated to me by paralegal was to seek review of a portion.
