Pilot here: your discomfort was probably not the pilot's fault. More likely caused by spacing, other a/c, and (most of all) weather. He didn't come in "too hot"––airlines regulate approach speed. It's not like a pilot can just decide to fly an approach at 250 kt. if he feels like it (and, if the approach is seriously unstablized, they'll go around). In a heavy, gusty crosswind, the safest way to fly the approach is slightly faster than usual, hard landing, quick deceleration. Probably not your pilot's fault, and certainly no reason to criticize all Delta pilots––passengers' comfort is not first priority during a landing; their safety is.

As a recreational pilot myself, shaky landings can't always be avoided, even in the best of pilots. Mother Nature is fickle bitch. Stick with consulting. Let them fly the plane.

Once had a landing where multiple people didn't wake up until we were at the gate bc it was so smooth.
Combination of skill and good weather. The bottom line is that in a gusting crosswind it would be irresponsible and dangerous to fly the same approach you'd fly if you had a perfectly constant 10-kt. headwind right down the centerline.
