Top tip: film yourself and watch the recordings, you’ll realise how much more concise you can be.
Top tip 2: big one. Put your laptop on like a stack of books or something so the camera is level with your eyes. This hugely improves your appearance so the interviewer isn’t just looking up your nose.
Solid tips!
I would like to think that you should prepare the same way as if you go to your in person interview. Dress professionally and be yourself. Check you internet, phone and zoom link. Try to pick a background that is relatively minimalist; nothing too distracting. Make sure that you have no other disturbance at home during the interview. I would put 15 min buffer at the beginning and end. And enjoy the conversation
Good luck
Surprised they're still hiring. And it's not like they had a choice, 40 tube stations have been shut down today and expecting a lockdown Friday onwards.
Yeah, we're definitely going into lock down mode - I only just moved here damn it! In terms of business continuity it's for a late May start so things may blow over a bit by then.
In addition to the above comments, do a dry run with a friend and get some feedback on how you can improve your virtual interview etiquette and skills
I've now reached out to a few mates to help. Thanks!
During the interview walkthrough your notes by telling the interviewer what you did step by step. This will bring you closer since in person we would show our notes. Also, don't forget to smile: the video makes your face much bigger/closer than in person and that's the only thing they'll see so watch your facial expression and posture. Just my two cents... good luck!!!
Would you mind sharing what type of engineering you did and if this is a generalist role or specialist?
I'm also in application phase as an engineer looking to pivot into experienced hire roles in NYC. Thx!
Right back at ya
Want to clarify - I'm definitely glad they have! One of the big 4 is still insisting on face to face interviews....
