Planning a trip to do some hiking in Utah. Planning to fly to vegas then go to Zion. Any recommendations on specifics to go to (e.g., trails, specific areas) and any tips / things to plan? Relatively novice hikers here

You should hit Bryce Canyon while you’re out there. I did 3 days (2 Zion and 1 Bryce) and Bryce is more memorable for me.

Bryce is amazing. Also check out red rocks as well

Zions narrows if you don’t mind getting wet

like

Absolutely loved the narrows. We rented the water hiking boots + pole from one of the local shops and it was totally worth it

like

Subway. Might not be best if your group is only novices but it’s incredible. Angel’s Landing if heights don’t bother you too much.

like

IMO the famous trails are always crowded and overrated (angels landing). I would do observation point and the narrows. Everyone also says how bad the parking is but I arrived at like 8/9 am and parked in the park itself with plenty of spots available. If you have time definitely recommend going to Bryce too

When you get stuck don’t cut your leg off, just bring a sat phone

Im here doing this now. Somebody died on Angels landing just last week. If youre in the area the drive to bryce canyon is definitely worth it. There is also snow canyon state park and red cliffs conservation area all with amazing hikes. Zion is a bit more of a hassle as theres no parking and u have to get shuttle tickets.

Also go check out Colorado City/Hildale its where the infamous FLDS cult was based and there are still polygamists living there. Ive never seen a community quite like that.

The drive on grand escalante is one to hold your breath on. Goto kolob canyon at Zion.

Narrows are great not sure if flash floods will be of concern. Definitely rent gear in Springfield. Springfield is a super cute town.

Bryce is an easy trip and has easy trails.

Try to do star gazing at night.

Angels landing in Zion for sure. If you like driving then the Schaffer Trail in Canyonlands is also great. It’s the most beautiful (and nerve-wracking) drive I’ve been on.

Top down narrows hike in a day is doable, but long. Definitely worth it.
