I’m an Analyst, and I was looking at opportunities at Microsoft as a Business Program Manager. It says it wants you to have 5+ years of experience, but someone I went to college with got that position straight out of undergrad less than two years ago. How true are the requirements at Microsoft?

Tailoring is good. If you can have a contact send you a referral link to apply through, that can help. I wouldn’t lead with remote.
At my company (and I would think generally) it can come from literally anyone internal. It may or may not get a little more weight if it comes from a lawyer or someone in the relevant business unit, but the better way to get weight that way is to have those people send a note to the relevant recruiter.
Literally copy and paste the job description and requirements into your existing resume so that the bot ranks your relevance as high as possible. Stating the obvious, but like make an effort to blend it in.
The remote thing is definitely seen as a negative by some companies. I’d stop saying that in your application
Yeah, I figured the remote thing is a negative but partly I wanted to be upfront on that. For a number of positions, as part of the application, you need to check if you are applying for a particular office or remote. Seems like maybe the right approach is to check all the boxes and then discuss location further down the road.
You need an internal referral. I get literally thousands of resumes a day. Even if you’re fantastic I may never see you. Best way to get seen is through an internal referral.
This is helpful and I will definitely plan to try to get an internal referral if and where possible. Seems like it can only help and it definitely isn’t harmful.
