Do you ever just want to drop everything, leave PA and travel for 6-12 months? I’m 3.5 years in, almost a CPA and content in my job, but for a solid year that thought has entered my mind many times.

On one hand I want to work my ass off, become wealthy AF and ball hard, then on the other I don’t know that it’s worth it. I’m just a single 27 year old who goes home every night super tired to watch tv and go to bed at 9PM. 🤦🏻‍♂️

like

Man smh that’s me 😓

I met a guy when I was staying at a hostel abroad who was just about to quit his job after 4 years and travel for 18 months. Followed on Facebook and he did and traveled to every continent all across the world. I don’t think he regrets it

like

First thing you said almost a CPA, I will pass the CPA exams but will not apply for license. Then take sabbatical or no paid leave for 4 to 6 months and travel. Once you had 3 or more years of experience the firms are more open to and willing to keep your spot for 6 month or so when you are out doing whatever you like. Life is too short so have fun.

like

I totally agree. Finish the exams and then travel. Some firms even allow for sabbaticals, so start asking people about that. I postponed my start date to travel. I learned a lot about myself and life- lessons you can’t get in school or on the job. You’ll come back refreshed and more clear on your future.

like

Do it

like

Pwc 1 - SMs get a paid sabbatical. Are you sure they did not do that?

OP - I feel you, but have support going in otherwise just come back to PA at a different firm or different office. It’s easier to establish yourself from scratch. The easy response for everyone here is “yeah just go for it yolo”. The harder question you have to answer is why 3 times (i.e. root cause analysis). Once you ask yourself that with honesty then you’ll have an answer on why your travel 6-12 months is important to you. Once you figure out why that is so important to you then I would have full confidence in how you can articulate why that experience would be applicable to future working endeavors. Then again, your why could be that you want to pop a bunch of pills in Ibiza which in that case wouldn’t translate to a good interview. Point is, your actions should reflect what you want your life to look like in 1 year, 5 years, etc. Making bank without a significant other to share it with or experiences to show for it generally does not lead to a fulfilled life. Ask yourself what fulfills you/makes you happy enough times to actually know what does.

likehelpful

I feel like I live in a different world. At no point 3.5 years in could I have even contemplated, from a work/monetary perspective, traveling for 6-12 months.

like

You can take sabbatical, I know a senior manager who left to travel Europe for four months and was able to come back to his job after

like

OP: if taking a 6-12 month trip is what you want, I urge you to do it but in the right way where that does not impact your career other than just stopping it for one year. I always wanted to do that and wasn’t unable to do it. Now with family and kids, things are much harder but I still do a good bit of vacation. You can always take a leave of absence so you can take your trip. I regret not doing that... good luck

About to quit a job in just one month of joining... what should I do...just hit the exit button, or keep a call with the Manager or the HR?

What are the things that I should say as the reason to quit so that I face the least issues.
I am just quitting for a better opportunity but don't want to burn the bridges here at the same time.

Would request the experienced fishes to help me with this. I am new to these kind of situations and really need help with how to handle this.

This is my first job in a large corporate company, and I’m trying to gauge how long it normally takes to move from entry level to another internal position in the insurance industry. I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? I am a top performer, with great metrics, and I have some wonderful connections I’ve made who support me. I just can’t seem to move up. How long did it take you to move up? How many tries did it take?
