I see this happen on the digital advertising side too. We hired this agency and they kept talking about their analysts working on more strategic things, which was our role. Their role was to build reports and complete the menial tasks, things they were always weeks or months behind on.
At one point I started giving them weekly tasks and goals the week prior for them to complete the next week and these people would push back and say let’s have a strategy call. It was frustrating… I’m literally telling you what to do, not asking for opinions
This is on the advertising side so a lot of analyst type work and menial tasks

It's been like this in the UK for a long time.
Funny you say that because this is where I am 🤦🏻♀️ so you’re 100% on the money. It’s so frustrating.
Gotta fail before you fly. There’s a lot of emphasis on moving towards being a “strategist” online, like on IG or LinkedIn. Perhaps new creatives / graduates don’t know how to do that, and think that being a creative strategist is more “conceptual work,” rather than putting out concrete results.
The way I worded this sucks, but to clarify, they may interpret being a “creative” as being a “strategist,” when the two have very different meanings in our industry. Hopefully that makes more sense!
