Been seeing a lot of talk lately about how AI tools are changing the way we handle claims and underwriting. I’ve been in insurance for 8 years now, and honestly, part of me is excited to see how much faster and cleaner our processes could get but another part wonders what that means for jobs long term. We’ve already seen some tasks automated that used to take teams of people. For those of you in the industry, do you see AI as an opportunity to grow or a threat to job stability?

There will always be a need for a human in the loop with UW and claims.

I see it as both. We were told we have a hiring freeze right now because of the roll out of AI handling claims. AI should make it easier and more efficient however I see most people can't handle a photo estimate and doubt they will be able to handle AI claims. They believe adjusters will be able to handle a higher claim load once implemented but I think it will probably be the same. The hardest part is clearing coverage which AI can collect some of the stuff but the time consuming part will be evaluating that and you will still have to review what AI did to make sure it's correct.

In my organization, most with my role are commission based. I make a set salary due to the firm I work for as an account manager/ coordinator for clients… I coordinate their enrollments, working with each groups HR department as to benefits and payroll purposes, and schedule our benefit counselors accordingly. I am finding that in most cases where I compare the voluntary benefits industry, I might be underpaid. What is an appropriate base salary for a position in which commission is replaced?
