Bernie's 32 your work week propaganda has been getting some air time this week, and I agree that everyone (workers included) should benefit from advances in technology and productivity.

I saw one analyst raise point regarding teachers and question if we'd shorten the instructional week to 4 days, and what impact that would have on learning. I think 4 day weeks for everyone throughout school, college, and work would be great. What do you think?

I think Europe has it down pat...a lot of their companies have half days, long lunches, all that good stuff! Our minds and bodies need the chance to relax and rest, 40 hour work weeks can make this really difficult!

like

I feel like the alternative to decreasing the work week is just having nobody benefit from technology besides the wealthy business owners. I think there is plenty of opportunity to stagger teachers or restructure workloads so that children still benefit from a full education. But who is to say that students learn best five days per week?

Sign me up for 4 days.

I think 4 day work is a great idea! Many people are slacking off if they can during that 40!

I think a 4 day work week is great, but I work 6-7 days a week so it probably wouldn't change much for me

I would absolutely love it if we went to a four day work week. People are exhausted and burnt out and at the end of the day that has a lot to do with our jobs and how much time we spend at them.

For anyone who receives a quarterly bonus or raise in some form, does your employer start to schedule you for less hours when your raise kicks in, or pull you from a future schedule entirely once you receive a bonus; only to put you back on once the hours you would have worked and earned the amount given are passed? Ie; a part time employee getting $200.00 in a quarterly bonus and then not being scheduled a whole week during a bi-weekly pay period where they would have earned more on the clock…?

I am planning on asking for a raise in my base salary and I am unsure what the market price would be for my skills at a staffing agency. I am in the top producer at my company with over 50 producers. I generate an average of $120k in GM per quarter. I am approaching my first year end review and I am currently at a base salary of $70,000 and I have 3 years of prior experience in the industry. What should I be asking for in this situation?

If I got a raise for every micro aggression I’ve received while at my current agency, I’d be in a really high income bracket! Hah.

I've been working at my company just over a year and am still waiting on my 1 year review where a raise was to be discussed (other EA got raise at 1 year review and most raises happen at yearly reviews). However, company have just changed their policy to only review salaries in Jan (change came in after my year mark). I'm having a lot of trouble pinning my manager down for my annual review to even discuss my performance, let alone the raise. Feeling the undervalued (and now underpaid):

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

Hi all,

I would like to hear out your opinions on internal salary negotiations at the back of promotion.

I'm a Business Analyst with over 10 years experience, been in the same company for the whole time, Currently, I'm below Average Industry standards by approx. 10% for my (current) role.

I have applied for internal job which is effectively one level above, meaning it would be a promotion.

I got the job, awaiting offer.

Due to a recent company-wide increase and additional pay for bilingual direct reports I am only making a dollar and change above them as their supervisor. I was hired into this position in March, having been the first employee in this department. I really tried to get them to budge on salary, they did not, but shortly after accepting they gave the whole company a dollar raise.

Any suggestions on how this might be addressed?
