Group house! I miss the days of having roommates and hosting pregames, watch parties, bbqs, and hanging out 😢 don’t grow up too fast!
I used FB groups to find a room in a house. Paid $750 including parking to be in a 4 bed townhome near Shirlington VA. Before that i had a room in an Avalon apt for $1800 a month in Ballston VA. Highly recommend going as cheap as possible and saving saving saving.

With $1500 you could split an excellent 2BR/2BA in one of the more interesting parts of the city (eg DuPont, Shaw). But, a studio in that price range will likely be pretty low quality and in a less exciting part of the city. Don’t mean to sound patronizing, but while you’re young it’s worth it to do the roommate thing. It’ll also potentially open doors socially and professionally outside your job/social circles if you find the right fit. It took me 7 years of adulthood before I got my own place, I don’t regret it.
Hey man, I’m from SD too :’)
If you do roommates you can live almost anywhere except maybe navy yard.
You really should share. You can get a MUCH nicer place. If you go in w a few people on a large row house you’ll get more space than you could ever need and only ever run into them in the kitchen. I did it for 3 years in a 3$M house and we all paid $900-1075. Mine was $1075 because I had my own bathroom. Was never bothered by roomies, we even had two living rooms, two porches, a formal dining room, a basement, 4 floors and 3 parking spaces and in lovely woodley park a block from red line and 2 blocks from zoo. It was glorious. You can also get nice 2BR apartments for under that budget where w a studio you’re going to spend that whole thing and not have the greatest space or location. Consider roomies. If you get good ones in the right house, it really won’t affect you as much as you think.
I know people with studios in adams morgan, van ness, shaw and columbia heights with that budget. Also maybe check out silver spring, hyattesville?, arlington past clarendon bubble (ballston ish). Check zillow often- good things come up and go fast. I know someone with a nice studio in dupont circle (an ideal area) for 1400. Good luck!
