“I’ll be out of the office and unavailable from...see you when I’m back.” I’ve never felt the need to explain what I’m doing outside of the office. It’s no one’s business. I could be getting a prostate exam, picking up the kids, getting stoned in my back yard. If someone asks just tell them something really uncomfortable like, “I’m picking up ointment for my rash.”
^ Haha my (old) boss would ask if I’m going on an interview every time I had to leave for a doctor’s appointment, to which I always jokingly replied “yes” and we would laugh. Then I actually started going on them. She’d ask, I’d answer, we’d laugh. My conscience was 100% clear. It was great.
I was once flying cross country for an interview - it was a harder lie to pull off [I was also flying straight from the work so I had to make it known I was going somewhere]. convoluted lie about visiting my Mom, etc.
everyone bought it - when I took the job the first question was “when did you fly out to interview?”

Say that you have an appointment to get your go removed. I’ve heard it’s unnecessary.

I just say I'm going to an interview. It always works out positively.
I’ve always been able to take the day off or do it before/after hours. The couple times I have interviewed, I always have been close to my manager at the time. I don’t want to put myself in a position to have to lie. Has worked thus far.
I do agree it’s a bit easier the further up you are though. You’ve accrued more time to take off/no one is looking to see if you’re glued to your desk etc. When in doubt- ‘appointment.’

A "root canal" gets you at least six absences.
I just leave work?? It’s called a lunch break. Haha. And nobody has ever asked where I’m at. I just time it on days I have less meetings, or just do a wfh day.
I’m a fan of the vague, but true statement:
“I have an important meeting I can’t miss."
