“I’ll be out of the office and unavailable from...see you when I’m back.” I’ve never felt the need to explain what I’m doing outside of the office. It’s no one’s business. I could be getting a prostate exam, picking up the kids, getting stoned in my back yard. If someone asks just tell them something really uncomfortable like, “I’m picking up ointment for my rash.”
^ Haha my (old) boss would ask if I’m going on an interview every time I had to leave for a doctor’s appointment, to which I always jokingly replied “yes” and we would laugh. Then I actually started going on them. She’d ask, I’d answer, we’d laugh. My conscience was 100% clear. It was great.
If someone asks where I’m going tell ‘em — “interview.” They always laugh and walk away thinking it’s bullshit. It works every time... and the best part, you’re not lying 👍
That’s great for when you’re high up enough. It’s hard for lower level people to just TELL their bosses they’re leaving instead of asking.
After you run through various medical appointments...
“My parents are in town! I’m picking them up from the airport and taking them to lunch.”
“I’m going to work from home today, our shower’s broken and I have to wait for the plumber” - effective because no one wants you to come in unshowered either
Bathroom ceiling is leaking. I’ve even taken a picture of a staged wet floor with bowls of water to send to my bosses.
“I’m taking a day/half day of PTO.”
You don’t owe your company an excuse or explanation. You’re not skipping Phys Ed to go smoke behind the fieldhouse.
Just say “an appointment.” It’s not a lie, and no one will ask “for what?” Because that’s inappropriate.
The trots
Dermatologist - you’re not deathly ill [or contagious] but something that won’t warrant too many questions.
Doctor appt.
Or keep it vague. “have to step out for an hour. Be back at XX:XX time."
Vasectomy
Explosive diarrhea.
This is the laziest “go!” I’ve ever seen and I think I hate it even more than the traditional, insufferable version.
Lol didn't realize how much people hate "go"
“High tea with my grandma"
The less said the better. Only an amateur would come out with a super specific story. “I’ve got an appointment “ works just fine. I even use that when I have a legit doctor’s appointment so there’s no change when I have a faux appointment. Truly, act like someone who doesn’t need to punch a clock and you’ll be treated like one.
We don’t say go, okay? We don’t.
The school/camp nurse just called. Your child is throwing up, please come get them.
Be straight up.
“I got a job interview “
