St Regis when it opens. Treat yourself and stay at the Peninsula.
Assuming you’re talking about a weekend trip. Renaissance on Wacker is a great location. The Gwen is part of the autograph collection and pretty cool. Hotel Chicago is ok, but not as good as other autograph collection hotels. EMC2 isn’t bad. I’ve heard good things about The Blackstone but don’t have personal experience.
I like the Renaissance for their rooftop bar (3rd or 4th floor) and if I’m just there for one night I usually get a suite with a great view of that ass hat’s tower across the river.
So I have to fight the urge to keep the curtains closed.
But seriously, nice suites, average bathrooms, good breakfast. Though all in, I still prefer the Gwen.
Surprised nobody has mentioned the Sheraton Grand. I lived in Chicago hotels for 3 years and I found this to be the best for Marriot if you have top status. The main reason being they have a lot of suites- so highest probability you will get a suite upgrade- was very common to get a 3 room suite if you are staying during the week.
Either of the JW Marriots are also top tier but can be pricey.
I don’t think the Sheraton is open. Pretty sure they’re still shutdown from the covid.
+1 for Gwen. It’s not terribly exciting but has a great location and is a good value. Their rooftop terrace bar is great.
My go-to’s have been the EMC2 and the Blackstone, though haven’t been to either since the pandemic.
Did they cancel your trip because they had a covid breakout? You should ask for points
This is the email I got. I don’t think it was a Covid breakout but now that I’m thinking about it I’m not sure why they cancelled and others haven’t?
I typically stay at the Gwen
Anyone care to share why they like the green? Is is because of location, service, quality?
The Gwen, it’s a luxury collection property. Nicer bed, linens, great bar, good breakfast, and I like the bathrooms.
The moxy is really cool and they give you free food/drink tickets if you have status
The W!

Omg no that’s the worst hotel in Chicago, and not even remotely near river north
