Sec counsel for a f500 pubco is usually easy and predictable. Im 450+ TC and have tons of free time and no night or weekend work outside of the rarest of occasions (cant remember last time)
This aligns with what I’ve heard as well. Hard to get but great once you’re in.
I’m securities/corp gov IHC. Can confirm what you described is out there. Proxy season, 10-Q/10-K,earnings, board meetings are busy but it’s only one client so you can manage your time more easily than a firm. I’m right around 40 hours per week average.
40 hours of available time
It’s encouraging to hear there are at least some jobs out there that may offer some hope. Been working near all nighters all week in biglaw and was starting to lose hope there may be light at the end of the tunnel, sigh.

As noted in other comment being a cog in a large company is underrated. Unless youre the gunner/career first type of person. Which i am not and I value my time and family wayyyyyy more than my job. Luckily I make enough where I am comfortable staying put. I have turned down higher paying jobs but would have longer commute, or more in office time or more responsibility.
I'm securities counsel at a pubco (second stint), and the above experiences do not at all track to my experience. I'm extremely busy, and things are always hectic, broken, and held together by super glue. Underresourced, can't get even a simple/reasonable budget for securities items, etc. Probably has to do with not being at a F500 at either, but things are a total mess.
I love what I do, but I'm seriously considering quitting law altogether. I'd love an out or an alternative if anyone has any ideas...
I have heard a LOT of lawyers talking about acquiring small businesses (think nail salon, laundromat, or even a plumbing company) that are run poorly and optimizing. We have a lot of skills that make us good managers and small business owners. I’ve thought about this as an option once I have more capital.
