Booth vs Kellogg? Why?

As I said a few weeks ago, Booth if you like eating lunch alone. Kellogg if you enjoy company 🤗

M1 clearly just didn’t want to actually have to study :) plenty of parties at Booth, too, but it’s more of a work hard play hard than a, play hard, play some more school like Kellogg

Even the more social Booth students admitted to me there’s a sizable population of really socially awkward people in their class… As others mentioned, Booth is more academically focused so it seems like they rather take the smartest people even if their social IQ is not great. Students at Kellogg are obviously also hard working and smart but generally seem more fun and like they don’t take life too seriously. That’s a much better environment for me, but I suppose to each their own.

Kellogg because it’s the most fun!! Good in tech, marketing, and consulting. Also would note that alumni donations have been pretty stellar this past year so could indicate an even stronger alumni base. Heading to Kellogg in the fall, didn’t bother applying to Booth — I vibed more with the Kellogg people, value community highly in wherever I go, and don’t have a business background so am looking for a way to have a structured education (rather than flexible)

like

Booth because flexible curriculum, most students live downtown, slightly better brand name / ranking, equally good for consulting but better for finance.

like

Booth is definitely better and more academically rigorous: totally different culture tho, so that’s where I’d pick on as Kellogg is also a great school

Booth for sure! Better pay-it-forward culture - I’ve regularly heard that people get 90%+ response rates when reaching out to alumni, and mine was 100% in my own research, which was not the case for me reaching out to Kellogg people (though allegedly Kellogg is pretty good at this too). Students were much more engaged and the buzz was better on campus at Booth when I visited classes. Grade non-disclosure is awesome and paired with flexible curriculum means you can take only the classes that you think will be most valuable for you and allow you to challenge yourself and learn new skills without worrying about grades. I thought for consulting and tech (my focus areas), the interview prep via MCG/KCC and BTG/KTC seemed very good and very comparable, and so is the placement.

At the end of the day, they’re both incredible schools, and you should probably pick based on how well you personally feel like you fit in with the people you’ve spoken to.

Booth because I want to stay in Finance

like

Similar to C1, I didn’t bother applying to Booth. Went to NU for Ug as well. Most of my UG friends and peers typically don’t consider Booth while they may consider Kellogg, Wharton, and HBS. To each his own. For me, it was about the alumni network and opportunities in general management. The NU and Kellogg network has pulled through for me time after time so I chose Kellogg.

likesmart

I doubt it exceeds 10-15% of your NU network. Most that I know chose Wharton, Kellogg, and/or HBS.

You can’t go wrong. I was a Booth reject and was really bummed since I thought it was a really good fit. I applied to Kellogg the next round and it was a really easy choice. As a prospect I’ve had very good interactions with students from both.

like

I chose to apply to Kellogg and not booth. 1. Wanted to be slightly outside the city for a little better class bonding. 2. Like the team/collaborative aspect of Kellogg. 3. Kellogg is strong in management and consulting, and I already have strong finance so didn’t need that at booth. 4. Kellogg seemed more fun and more about the connections, which I really value. Don’t want to waste my time studying.

like

Both are great. If you want to go quant, technical, Booth is good. Kellogg better at soft skills. You’ll likely maintain a better network who are more willing to help in the latter over course of your career

When would be the right time for me to get an MBA given my background?

I was a teacher for 4 years and transitioned into the corporate world. I have 6 months experience in marketing and that’s what I currently do, but plan for a lateral move in the future. I’ve seen suggestions of 3-7 years experience - does my teaching experience factor in? Or should I consider the 3-7 years only of my corporate time? Or is an MBA sooner a good move because of my big career transition (and future lateral)?
