California LCSW

I’m a licensed clinical social worker in Canada, moving to California in 4 months (LCSW transfer for CA in progress).

I currently have my own virtual practice in Canada and would like to relocate this to California. My question is, how difficult is the process of credentialing in-network with various insurance companies and do they provide reliable, consistent referrals if you are credentialed with them? Any other advice on building clients in a virtual space in CA is welcomed

I should also add that I know there are companies like Path Mental Health which get you credentialed - but they also only pay out $70/hour which is well below what I receive in private practice right now.

No private practice therapists I know of are in net-work. You’re better off staying out of network. In NYC, you can make $250,000- 300,000 at roughly 25-30 sessions a week, working ten months a year.

If a company offers free session with mental counselors and therapists as benefits, do you think this would be an indicative that the work can be bad for you?

I know some insurance benefits provide it, but certain companies also offer paid sessions. Although this sounds great...I wonder if this shouldn't be seen as red flag for a toxic environment or unhealthy job in the long term.

How many therapists (and social workers too!) see a therapist themselves? Do you find it helpful?
I think there's this myth that therapists have all their own sh*t figured out, and for me at least I know that's far from true (hopefully it isn't just me). On the contrary, I think we should be leading by example!

This is why I am thinking of psyD. Also, considering psychiatric RN or lmft.

Hello, I’m an LMSW in Michigan. I have 15 years of experience in the field as a clinician, supervisor, and an administrator. I am feeling burnt out and unsure of my future. I have worked mainly in the Community Mental Health and the VA Health systems, hence my fatigue. I’ve flirted with private practice work in the past, but my spouse has been worried about not having affordable healthcare and benefits that each system provides. Is it worth the jump? Am I overthinking things?
