People who care about prestige: 🤡
Ya I guess that’s why idk I’m just tryna understand stop being a hater BCG1
Pro
Buy-side is more prestigious (PE/VC/HF on the deal teams). Then it's sell-side (IB), then the auxiliary finance advisory roles (valuation, M&A advisory, equity research, etc.). Bottom is back-office (data analytics, syndication, etc. typically at large banks).
Pro
I believe equities strategy is more deciding equity investments in a fund/portfolio whereas equity research is releasing reports/forecasts on a particular stock or industry. Like when people quote an analyst price target for a stock, those are from equity research analysts
Sell side

Other buy side roles

Wait so where does wealth mgmt and equities mgmt fit?

Your family trying to hire? I’d jump.
The response above has everything. HF and PE investment teams are top tier. Then ibd at bulge brackets or boutiques. Then mid size banks. Then Corp fin
Rising Star
Jump to their finance firm if they’re there haha
There’s also a huge variance within IB... PJT RSSG is very different from Raymond James ECM
Thanks! Where does equities and wealth management fit?
I’d offer a slightly more nuanced view:
- Buy side investment team, then PortCo operations then strategy/IR etc
- Sell side IBD, then equity research then S&T then wealth/private bank
- Consumer/retail/commercial banking
- Banking middle and back office
- Financial planners/insurance brokers/mortgage consultants
Depends. If you are a rock star, insurance brokers can make a ton too. Like ones that can sell ice to eskimos
Where would Corp strat type roles fit in?
