Coast fire means having enough in your retirement savings such that if you never save another dime, by the time you reach retirement age (or maybe a bit younger) you have a fully funded retirement. So if you have $1,000,000 saved today and assume a 7% return and retire in 20-ish years, at retirement you'll have $4m or $150k/year in retirement. So if that's enough for you to live on, you don't need to save any more. You can coast and just cover your living expenses today.
Or it means that you could retire now, but are casually working to have health benefits and pay bills so that you’re true retirement is more comfortable.
So it’s not about saving but more about not digging into the retirement plan you set up
