Hi guys ,
I am in a US project in Accenture. We have long calls in the night timings. My other teammate has backed out saying she won't attend any calls as she got some medical condition so she won't attend long calls which extend till 9:30.Other teammate is a junior. The managers are expecting me to join all the calls. No help I am getting. And they all being Tamil, I think some partiality is going on between them.Even our onsite lead is of no use.She expects me to attend long calls.
What should I do .pls suggest?

It’s really weird, but I would have thought that these parental units would have realized that teaching their progeny is NOT a joy or pleasure on many days. Did COVID expose them to THEIR children on a daily basis? And let’s remember that PARENTAL UNITS have a HECK of a lot more latitude to modify behavior and motivate the unmotivated than the lowly teacher. So who the heck are PARENTS and the GOVERNMENT trying to gaslight because it sure isn’t the teachers who have to “work with” these “scholars” Monday through Friday; it’s not us.
And there are some kids that aren’t good
Public opinion about teachers is also affected by abysmal reading and math proficiency scores across the country. While there are a myriad of reasons for this, it’s a PR disaster for teachers.

The scores are not always the teacher's fault. When you have students, and parents who don't care about completing assignments or homework.... of course scores are low!
I wish people understood that those 'breaks' are survival time for us. Teaching is exhausting, period.
Rising Star
I totally agree. Teaching is exhausting. It is rewarding in the fact that we are "changing" the world , but the status of being a teacher is almost become a shame in the general eyes of the people
People don’t realize how much time/money is spent on PD in the summer. We get paid for 10 months annualized so that we don’t have to budget for summer. Some PD (travel, etc) are paid by districts, but our time isn’t compensated. They consider such travel as paid vacation, but it is work the entire time

I basically only had about three weeks of summer break, due to PD and Summer School
The general population that works all year long gets far less and often is paid the same or less. We are fortunate. We can carry those days over too. We get 10 days in my district but we have a week in October, a week at Thanksgiving, a couple of weeks for Christmas, a week for spring break plus summer. I’ve worked in education for 23 years and it’s definitely better than the majority of the general population.
Same in Mississippi, but less sick days.
I'm curious if you get 10 total days of which 3 can be personal days or you get 10 sick days AND 3 personal days for a total of 13 days???
We don’t get to rollover
We get 10 sick days and 2 personal days every year.
We get 7 sick days and three personal days approved way ahead of time. How much do other teachers get?
10 sick and 3 personal per year at my district, which I believe is pretty standard in PA.
I never use most of mine and they roll over. So, I’ve accumulated 188 days in my 20 years teaching. There are others in my district who use all their days every year… and string long stretches of personal days together to take longer vacations. I couldn’t read the posted Chicago tribune article without a subscription, but suspect it’s the teachers using all their sick days (without actually being sick) that leads to the public animosity.
My district also has a sick day bank we can join (I have). We donate days to those with serious illness requiring extended absence. These days are auto deducted from the ‘members’ when the bank falls below a set number of donated days. As a member, we could benefit if we ever found ourselves in a situation where we were the one on extended medical leave.
What do you get in FL if 10/3 is terrible? I’m in WV and this is pretty standard fare for time off.
5 personal and 5 sick
We get 12 sick and 3 personal days per year. We can carry over up to 180 sick days, any additional are put into our VEBA accounts in May at one day of pay for four days of leave. We can carry over five personal days to the next year, any others are paid out in May.
We get 7 sick and 3 personal!
