What firm? Big 4? That seems very fair. First year SM’s in Chicago are only make $150k - $164k and that’s a higher COL market
$160K seems fair in Michigan. First year senior managers on the west coast are probably in the $180s-$190s, but there’s definitely a cost of labor difference.

First year SM are at 200K in NYC, so I’d say 160ish in Midwest is plenty. That salary will go far there.
That seems ok for Michigan
I am not from Michigan
If you’re not big 4 or top 10 then I don’t think you’re underpaid. If you were, I would think $175k for first year SM in Michigan
Yeah… my friend is big 10 and making 165 as a 3rd year SM in Pittsburgh… I don’t think you’re underpaid for the market.
The reason I think I am underpaid is you know the first year managers are making 125 to 135. With that I think the SM should be making at least 175 especially if you are making SM after 3 years of being manager but I could be totally wrong.
You’re assuming 10ish% increase every year? Doubtfully.
I don’t think you’re underpaid. When I left CohnReznick about three years ago, the posted salary range for a senior tax manager in NYC was $160k - $240k. So you can draw your own conclusions from that. Three years ago and big range, but also VHCOL
You are not underpaid.
I am a second year SM in B4 tax at a low cost of labor city in the south and I am at $173. That was after a large raise this year. 160 is 3-4k more than I had at SM1.
