I’m at EY and my time is split between provisions and compliance. At other firms do people focus solely on one? I prefer provisions and would like to focus solely on them.

It’s definitely best to have experience in both. Many groups would do both, it’s more about industry focus/client type and serving all those needs, than just doing one type of work

This. Too much focus pigeon holes you.

Join TARAS they do provision work exclusively, no compliance

like

EY 3 is right. EY’s TARAS practices are the best in the world when it comes to the provision game.

Other firms you enter into a specific group and focus on that service. I'm not sure about the overlap of provisions and compliance but I imagine they are separate at other firms.

I understand that the compliance team for a given client typically also performs the provision. Makes sense from a continuity perspective.

I do both, but could easily spend 80/20 on provisions/compliance if I wanted.

Do you want to do provision prep or provision audit work?

Intl Tax folks, how long did it take before you were confident in your role? I've worked for the past 3 years in a practice that is heavily consulting based (inbound and outbound structuring) and I feel like I'm only just starting to understand the foundational concepts (where I can explain them clearly to clients) and offering a shred of value. Then I'll have calls where partners discuss complex tax, legal, treasury and other related concepts that all go over my head.. it becomes overwhelming
