no no.... this is good
steve powers has described this as maybe the darkest, most nihilistic logo in use. it's great.
It’s one of the only honest logos left.
I did digital strategy for Sherwin Williams many years ago, version 1.0 of their e-commerce website. Tried to broach the topic of the environmental context for their logo then, this was the mid-90s - they are just completely steeped in their history, legacy, etc., that they have a kind of internal corporate blindness to it. Plus they are a big corporation in a relatively small pond (Cleveland Ohio), so I don't think they feel much need to "change". But yeah, it isn't great!
internal corporate blindness is something you could probably accuse 90% of clients
Are you serious this is iconic? The backstory to this logo was that Sherwin Williams wanted to become a global paint company beyond the US, and it also was known for superior coverage as a selling point (theres famous before its time out of home where they took an actual old house on the side of a highways and painted half of it with one coat of SW, and the other half with "another" brand. The whole outside of a real house. I want to say it was from the 1930s but feels like something we would all cheer today - a true out of home pioneer). I've always loved this so much.
MAGA people will be incandescent with rage if they try to change it.
this is why i pour all my paint down the storm drain.
Always reminded me of ice cream.
The fact that the SW logo has likely survived dozens of well intentioned brand leaders and agency's who have proposed some eco-friendly update is a small miracle.
This is a piece of design 20th century history.
So is asbestos.
Wait, I thought the earth was flat?
Red was… a choice
Get over it
