I just joined Crowe as a change management leader and I love it. The culture is healthy and the work-life balance is fair.
I love Crowe and change management team is a great group. Don’t get too excited by unlimited PTO. You still have to get your work done first. I’ll take 1 to 2 weeks off in addition to our holidays….but the holiday time is great. Week at the 4th. Week at Christmas. 4 days for labor and Memorial Day.
I started in Government change roles and it depends on you/ your personality and interests really. The upside there is things will be slow enough for you to understand what your client challenges/needs are and execute pretty easily. The downside is it's slow and choices are often made 100% for financial reasons, which means you will be doing more manual work and long hours because of lack of investment. Most clients are disfunctional in multiple ways and it can be demoralizing. It's not "cutting edge" or innovative. Is that something that's important to you? Also, while having a large team is great and seems like it may bring opportunity, that has a lot of mixed results, especially in consulting. It's often competitive and not very collaborative or team oriented, depending on your group it can be very much high school. Don't count on there being a larger span of control or group to get you opportunities or comradery anywhere, consulting, government, or private. To be clear, I appreciate my government consulting days, but after a few years most were tired of the overwork and realized we needed to get to private consulting if we didn't want to be work horses. I eventually went to private sector and that was the best decision, if you have an opportunity for private sector I'd say take it. Especially if the culture is a fit, that's a huge part of the long hours you will put in -- jiving with your coworkers. In terms of opportunities the fact you're building the capability with your manager is acutally huge. You have access to a senio leader that can sponsor your career and helping to build something from scratch is something many don't get until much later. It will make a big impact on your resume, much more than the government roll outs. Lastly, you can always go to government/consulting from private sector -- it's a harder and longer path to do the opposite. Many people feel insecure about not having consulting experience, don't buy into that. My first manager/team out of consulting was made up of ex-consultants. I learned so much and continue to from that network than I ever did in consulting. Focus on finding your tibe and cultural fit, the rest will flow naturally from there.
Thank you D1!
❤️ I appreciate the thoughtful responses. This was really helpful.
Do you want to work in childcare? Is there room for advancement at childcare company?
The PTO policy is nice I average 3-4 weeks plus all the holidays but it’s not like you can request off every other week. It still needs to get approved, etc.
100% remote is amazing though instead of commuting.
The childcare company has new change management roles so it's just my manager and myself. We get to build it from scratch.
Crowe would give me more developmental opportunities since it's already established.
Crowe 3...got any openings?
What’s the pay difference? I did an internship Crowe and wasn’t impressed, but perhaps culture and work has shifted in the past 3 years
