You’re interviewing for a Senior Manager position with only 5 YOE?
5 in consulting and 5 in Industry. So 10 total.
If you only have 5 YOE in total I don’t see you being qualified for M let alone SM. Try for a SC position. Most importantly you are comparing your responsibility as an Senior with a SM, proves the point you’re not even ready for Manager. Harsh but truth. No hard feelings here, rebase your expectations.

What’s you total YOE? What’s your designation at EY? For a SM position focus more explaining your achievements, experience and leadership capabilities. If I was hiring an SM I won’t worry about case interview as it is should be proven by your experience.

Yep. In my current position. I'm managing multiple teams, supporting the sales process, helping to grow internal resources through coaching while also helping the recruitment process for the firm. Those are the type of things SMs I talk to are doing. I think in some cases type of experience acquired outweighs yoe. I have 5 yoe in industry and 5 in consulting. So 10 yoe total. Do you think I'm missing something?
Sorry, you only have 5 YOE and are interviewing for Senior Manager roles at Deloitte? ETA I'm confused bc that would put you solidly at SC, MAYBE you could make a case for manager. But the things you're mentioning that make you ready for SM are things I'd expect a high performing SC to do. I'm assuming you haven't been managing multiple teams for that entire 5 year period nor do you have 5 years of leading major captures under your belt....do you?
I use case coach now in my preparations for my BCG interview. I love it!
want to add context though: have 1.5 years FT experience and 2 years out of college (covid and graduating in 2020 was rough lol). Current consultant, applying for Associate consultant with 2 YOE per the recruiter. it’s a drop in title but BCG is so significantly better than where I am it’s insane, so I don’t really care.
Deloitte will most likely bring you to M if you are going for Deloitte Consulting. I would also suggest you do M. SM at D seems to be no joke; and what you are describing is just M responsibilities. We also have a way different delivery style than EY; which has to be learned, as it influences expanding field of play.
I welcome the honesty. All helpful points to help me prep. Thick skin here. I have 10 yoe and have heard a lot before. Please keep sharing with me.
KPMG1, I think people have been pretty respectful on this post and have told OP that 5 YOE won't get them SM. They then came back and said they actually have 10, which is confusing. Alternatively we could have said oh! Of course 5 YOE makes you qualified but OP came here for honest feedback not fake support.
