McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

First off, consultants don't get fired from projects, they get rolled off. At the end of the day you need to protect your team and firm if the clients values conflict with yours; you aren't there to be buddies with them over your team. Talk to your manager discreetly
Hopefully you understand the issue here. The right thing to do is to talk to the person directly... however consulting (and most other jobs) do not reward people for doing the right thing. In fact, people are usually punished for it.
Ever wonder why a lot of people on here are so jaded? Well, now you have an idea.
Good luck!
Keep your mouth shut.
If you like your job shut up and keep doing what you are doing, stay out of politics. You are still a lowly consultant unfortunately, don't get involved
Keep your mouth shut- the guy who told you that might be full of it. The information is completely inactionable (not clear they told you who the second person is), and if you raise a red flag and nothing happens, you look like a moron for your leadership and a snitch to the client (if it gets back to them).
If you hear this from a second client source (unprovoked, don't probe), then tell your leadership that something is up.
Its a test. To see if they can trust you. Why the hell else would they tell you?
Why would you keep quiet? Bring this up in a one on one with your PM and maybe they'll even raise it to the engagement lead. So many members of a team fired from client could represent deeper account problems from relationship to mismatch in skill set and scope.
Agree with the guy above. Nobody is getting "fired", for many reasons performance being just one of them people get rolled off a project. I am 100% sure that the director or partner already knows. Let them handle this because it's above your pay grade. Otherwise, If you think you can help your team by giving them a heads up, then you should. Building trust with client is great but remember who gives you a paycheck and your team. Much to learn little one.
Be careful about how close you are with clients. There is a line. I've seen people who have "gone native" get burned by their firm - even it was just the perception. You work for your firm not the client. I'd stay out of it altogether.
Sc1 nailed it. For all practical purposes you're going come off as a gossip, or worse yet, someone manipulating the situation, especially if you end up taking over his work
Just enjoy the show. 🍿
Yeah, I'd bring it up. Clients don't dictate team structure, and the consulting firm's determination of how it conducts the study and with whom is central to the professional service model. Clients don't hire individuals, they hire the firm. Your seniors deserve to hear what you've heard so they can factor it into other things that may be going on.
I get told things that aren't told ACN higher ups because of my relationship with the client and same consultant level. Heck I was told that my managers were getting rolled off and I was gonna take over. Either way don't get involved or else you might look like you are betraying someone
Dude chill. People are getting rolled off, happens all the time. sounds like your director has it covered. You don't need to communicate it to the people getting rolled off. Get back to your model and stop worrying
These responses are crazy! Unless your project is dysfunctional, you absolutely bring it to the attention of your manager. It's not a test, it's not "political" . This isn't house of cards. And the "lowly consultant" comment is also BS...A good consultant who can keep me informed of the goings on is very valuable
OP why are you so fixated on "firing" your colleagues?
Stay quiet. Things will take their own course. When someone says don't tell, you don't tell it to anyone . That's a sign of trust
I just read the part about how your director knows and will be bringing on someone new. This is already taken care of above your pay grade and your client told you knowing they shouldn't tell you. You are not supposed to go and tell the person being rolled off. This will definitely get you in trouble. You are helping no one
Haha why don't you share it on fishbowl for everyone to read, I mean it's open to the public and the people who shouldn't find out may find out through this, oh wait...
OP wants to remain a lowly analyst forever or worse get himself canned. Find a new profession if you are not man/woman enough to avoid drama, do your job and step up for more responsibility when asked
