Of all the responses, only D2 seemed to address what would be a major near term concern. At my clients I see D running the program for the head of a business line and slalom doing staff aug roles in the PMO. Maybe im seeing a non-representative sample, but translate “prestige” to “ability to sell and staff interesting /challenging work” and you may be closer to the trade off at hand. Slalom fish, let me know if that’s an unfair characterization
Maybe I'm an exception, but my experience is definitely not staff aug. It's been very transformational work.
I would classify us as “consulting” In my office, we’re routinely competing against D and Accenture for the same projects. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of our Program Management service line is Staff Aug, but anything tech related isn’t, and our S&O line is probably 30% staff aug. a little too high, but they are definitely working on it. I guess it all comes down to what you value most. Slalom is made up of about 40% ex-Accenture folks. Not that many people would come to Slalom if all we did was Staff Aug
I totally agree, literally the only people who care at all about it other consultants
30% increase in salary isn't all that much in the grand scheme of things. Factor in decrease in travel and increase in staff aug work.. you're not really switching up
The downside of no “up or out” policy is that there’s no clear path up. It’s a fairly meritocratic culture though.
I’m pretty disenchanted after 5+ years. We spend a lot of time telling each other how great are farts smell.
Slalom is a software engineering and project management company above all else.

perhaps there's a reason you're disenchanted...
Prestige = exit opportunities. D to Slalom isn’t an upward exit opp IMO, it’s lateral at best. Slalom looks to pull talented big4 people who are sick of traveling but still want to do “consulting.” I have heard of a few people going to Slalom that end up frustrated because they don’t have the resources of better firms and get stuck in staff aug projects. Also heard of others who like it bc they don’t have to work more than 40h and that’s all they really care about, even though their projects aren’t interesting. I guess it depends on what’s important to you. If I were you, I would take your offer to D and have them match, rather than leaving for a lateral opp with potentially no career path or upward mobility.
SA3 isn’t lying. If upward mobility is important to you then D is the place to be. Career wise.. eh.. I guess it depends on your practice. For technical folks, brand recognition doesn’t matter as much. If you can architect/build the hell out of stuff nobody cares where you’re from. People just wonder where they can get more talent just like it.
You’re basically putting the price on work life balance. That’s what it comes down to. Our benefits don’t stack up. Cherish that 30%, because bonuses average 7% and annual raises are negligible. <4%
Usually Manager or Senior Manager. You’re going to be hard pressed to come into slalom anything higher than a SP. unless you’re a partner or whatever at D. Then maybe you’ll come in as a Client Service Partner or a Practice Lead
Yeah you will forever more be in career purgatory but if that 30% pop would be enough go for it
Maybe I’ll just boomerang
