I'm in a similar situation, except my "Junior" advisor is 15 years older than I am, but has been out of the industry 10+ years and is coming back.
He's very accepting that he has a lot to learn and re-familiarize himself with, but he was a broker in his past life. He doesn't want to be transactional at all, thanks to some personal epiphany, so I am willing to give it a try.
He is going to have me sit in on all his meetings and we are going to work on a financial plan step-by-step for each of those clients. As he learns the processes, he'll take on more and more of the responsibility until he doesn't need me anymore. I fully expect this to take more than a year before I am off the hook.
I'll also bring him into many of my planning meetings as experience is the important factor. I will not compensate him for being in my meetings and I will be taking an override on his accounts for several years that decreases as he grows his book and needs me less.
In the Indy world, there really is no training options I have seen and many advisors don't have the time or the skills to pass their knowledge along. I hope that when we look back on this, he feels that it was a great decision and good experience.
