How is WLB in PwC india lately?
I have received offer from Shell and SAP labs is in final stage salary discussion. Shell is offering 6 lacs more than @SAP labs. I have tried to negotiate a lot from SAP but they are not ready. They are putting conditions like give your full commitment to join then only we'll release offer letter. I am currently looking for work life balance with growth. Should I join @SAP considering its a Product based and good WLB and learning? Teck Stack - Java/Micro-services/cloud YOE - 11yrs

Our Philadelphia-area boutique firm whose practice works exclusively with nonprofits and charities is hiring due to growth. Tax is the basis of Exempt Org work. That is why I am posting here. Great practice working to further charitable missions of our clients. Good WLB (1300 hour billable requirement). Opportunity for the right person to work remotely. I did it and just had a soul crushing year that was as busy as my BL years if not busier. My juniors were unavailable or incompetent. A client sent me a GIF of a countdown after hours because I hadn’t yet sent something my junior had not completed, another client got my teams and was pinging me at 7:30 a.m. Was asked for my cell number so a client could call me that night at 9pm. Was told by a partner I had to respond to a client within an hour. Worked every day between thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Got documents sent to me to review within 24 hours. I don’t find the hours to be better enough to justify the pay cut. Part of it is my role, which sucks because I am the main contact for the client, the junior, and the partner.
And no, I didn’t have any 3am days. But I didn’t in big law. I had midnights at 6ams, but I had these in big law as well.
I will also note that the quality of the people you work with is not as great. In national tax they will be amazing, but you don’t exclusively work with national tax people and I don’t know if I can handle more questions about what are the consequences of a clearly disregarded transaction.
It often is not but you can specialize more and there’s less up or out. You can stay for a long time as a senior manager or director.
Thanks all! Just got my offer and they matched my number. Bye bye golden handcuffs!
Yeah, solid offer. Congrats.
From my colleagues who've transitioned they've stated it's night and day from BL hour wise.
Of course, the trade off is the comp. However, we still get to see the tip-of-the-spear tax issues.
What is the comp like? Also - do you have to work in DC?
No, it would be fully remote. I’m planning to move to a LCOL city out of a HCOL city. Haven’t had the comp discussion yet
WNT is typically the best with being remote.
1. Where is the position based?
2. What group are you applying for within WNT?
3. And what level would they be bringing you in at?
That would help with giving ball park figures.
I haven’t been in big 4 in a while but my understanding is that, at least for Deloitte, the WNT groups have to meet in DC pretty frequently (like once a month or so) but that may be outdated info and may be group dependent.
I did it. Feel free to message me. The hours are lower. But I find the biggest difference being when the hours come and how often you start/stop certain things. I enjoy it.
That’s great to hear and I agree with A2. The unpredictability of the hours has really been getting to me lately and I think with more consistency I’d be much happier.
