They could have straight up lied about the 40 hours thing. The pay raise is very nice, but what’s the total comp? Not sure I’d go back into the office, even for 30% more…
I think with a newborn, this might not be the role for you...I would think flexibility is far more important at the moment. Bigger jobs will always be out there, and I do agree with PwC1 - there is 0 guarantee that they will actually stick to 40 hours a week
So there is very likely not an opportunity to return back to the firm if things don’t work out.
I did a similar jump a couple years ago, and the lack of flexibility (and company struggles) caused me to boomerang back within the year.. having to be in the office when it is slow or there’s nothing to do feels like such a waste of time, and not having the option to wfh occasionally without having to make it a big deal ended up being more of a pain point than i initially thought it would be.. also with smaller companies make sure you really get to know your future manager/boss/ coworkers, and that you like them, and feel like you will have the ability to grow/develop working for them
A small firm with 40 hr workweek is a lie. Flexibility as a parent is everything. Do not go.
