It's 7.5k to maximize benefits. Not to get your money back.
It's only 7.5 using a conservative value (2 cents per point) and assuming no bonus spend. Since I find it highly unlikely that you wouldn't spend anything on dining or travel (3x points for both) it's way below 7.5
