Curious how many interviews that others have had where the recruiter states that there are "a few other core competencies that were not in the job description" and proceeds to ask for your experience in multiple things. This is not only misleading for the applicant, but it's also defeating when you are excited to get a phone screening, only to find out that you no longer meet the "qualifications" for this role that you thought was a perfect fit. Is this common?

Anyone have advice for advancing in your current role? My co-worker was hired in at manager level but somehow “proved” he was actually doing director level work and got a title promotion and salary increase in less than a year. 15 YOE, recently started my first tech PR job at a large, stable company & have been asked to get ~20 SMEs in front of media. Subject matter is not sexy. I lead PR for all of U.S. & have no other PR colleagues. My agency’s budget is 100k/year & they’re spread too thin to hit their KPIs.
