I guess - in the past creatives would rather go to an edit house - but recently I had a conversation with an CD who said no one has time to camp out at an edit house all day and so would rather have a talented editor at the agency.
I’ve also been told that freelance editors are starting to bid the job like an edit house would - and then just make a deal with a finishing house to online -
Due to budgets and packaging, I've had a freelance editor 4 wall at a music house and finished at a post house. It sounded kind of crazy, but actually worked really well.
Can you clarify, is the question what’s their preference on using a staff editor or a freelance editor?
I freelance- I haven’t heard of editors bidding jobs like that. It’s an interesting thing to think about though.
Producers love saving the money, but in general I find that creatives look down on you for not working for a big time post house. Even if they don’t say so it’s palpable.
In house getting more and more common though. If you wanna future proof yourself learn to color and finish!

More and more editors are leaving the big post houses though, there isn’t enough work at them
I've been editing freelance at agencies for over a decade. It's more common than you realize.
@executive producer 1 - this is exactly what I’m thinking on. Did you bid the job like you would thru an edit company or did you book the editor as a day rate?
Thanx for your thoughts on this
