In a non-attackish way may I ask why anyone would take a 250k opportunity cost for an MBA for enough ‘pedigree’ for a job? I have a friend who is planning on selling their house to get an MBA, I just don’t get it.
Even though EY2 has a point, the comparison of selling a house to do an MBA is not the point/shouldn’t be how you make that decision. I wouldn’t (much like most here) recommend you to do an MBA so that you maybe “develop pedigree” for something. However, that in itself doesn’t make an MBA good or bad. There are so many factors that come in play - how much you make today (if 80k for instance, could end up being a good financial decisions for most exits), do you have a scholarship, then doing your homework to find out what are the odds of getting into MBB (e.g if it’s 5% and you know you’re putting work into it, it may be something to pursue) and for whatever comes up after MBB, would you be interested/would it be a good jump for you
Not true. Actually the total opposite. A new hire with consulting experience (I talk about tier 2 and above) adds much more value and after joining and in a quicker manner. I was myself one and I could see the performance gap with my peers coming from non consulting backgrounds.
actually MB Firms drool when People from good tier 2 firms such as OW and ATK come over. From PwC I dunno, I would say not that much unless if coming from S&
No, audit wouldn’t be of any help or seen as a plus vs any other industry
prefers candidates who do not have experience outside of consulting do they are able to mold them in “their fashion”. Assuming my credentials are satisfactory, would you think I would be considered by MBB with a Kelley MBA and 3 years work experience? Any thoughts or advice is welcome
Nope the complete opposite they much prefer consulting experience.
My experience is in audit and not consulting. Does that change your perspective?
I would check the placement stats for Kelley for MBB specifically. Doesn’t sound like a target school. Not saying it’s not doable but that you would need to devote a lot of time and energy into networking. Might be difficult if you’re also still working full time.
Would target other programs than Kelley for MBB not a target school.
