Currently a Wealth Advisor at Citi. Prospecting is easy, but company is impossible to get anything done and very frustrating. Just turned down Citizen's Bank, which I think was probably a mistake because it was a good offer. Currently interviewing with Santander Bank, Tiaa-creft, Charles Schwab, and Mariner Wealth. Anybody have any input to give before I jump on one of these deals?

I’ve just heard about their culture. I have friends at CS, NM, & JP Morgan who have heard the same.

I’m interested in what you do for prospecting? I’m new and I’m open to any prospecting ideas

At Citi it’s easy. They give you lots of branches and even though branch staff is not incentivized to refer to you, if anyone even so much as mentions the word of IRA, retirement, investments, stocks, etc, anything within the scope of wealth management they will send you the referral. Besides that, in some cases you’re paired with a CitiGold Relationship Manager that part of his/her job is to refer to you investment leads. You have the branch Citigold book assigned to you on SalesForce which is all customers that have at least $200k plus at your branches if you want to call, and besides all that you have so many customers walkings through the door all you have to do is say welcome to Citi and escort them to your desk. “You’re going to put the money that you haven’t touched in over a decade into a 4% CD during a market that’s down over 20% and that’s averaged 11% for the past 100 years?” Prospecting is as easy as it could possibly get, however, the compliance and admin part is absolute insanity. Unless you’re already a million dollar producer and have a dedicated sales assistant to take care of your admin bull, to open an account here is absolute INSANITY. The account opening process here is like SERIOUS. And when I say SERIOUS it’s hard to even put into words. Far beyond even comparison to any firm on wall st times 10.

Read your contracts carefully. Don’t work for someone else and build them wealth and then have nothing to show for it.

I work in a sucky IBM cic, making $54k. It’s a full time job with regular benefits and vacation etc, it’s working with government clients. The job isn’t what I applied for & constantly changes. I don’t like that, but I’m a full time employee which is “stable employment”. Btw, I’m in the DC area.

I just got hired for a government contract through Accenture for a Business Analyst role. Pay is $65 per hour. 3 year contract. Benefits too. No PTO. Holidays off with pay, after 90 days.

Everyone has a different perspective on this but would love to hear yours. Someone has debt ranging say 4-5% interest rates. Do you attack debt more then investing to move towards a debt free life or do you go after investments since they return historically above that then paying down closer towards retirement. I know the latter looks better on paper but what about the psychological factors of being debt free and the guaranteed return on interest savings.
