You don’t have to pay that much. Why NYC?

You won’t have a commute, so that frees you up to look at neighborhoods where $3k can easily get you a 2 bedroom apt.
Alternatively, you can just design the space smartly and use it wisely. I work from home in a studio apartment. Doesn’t bother me with the way I have it laid out and how often I leave because there’s so much to do right outside my door.

If you’re willing Live in BK, Jersey City or Queens you can definitely find something under $3K or just around that mark depending on the building type/ neighborhood

They reduced your pay and never adjusted it back?
Different company. Background in mechanical engineering and trying to transition out. ME jobs near $200k haven’t been plentiful
You want to be in NYC it sounds like from your other comments. You will have that empty feeling something is missing unless you go. Your income is high enough, give it a try. You can always leave a lease once it’s up.
Depends on the neighborhood and what criteria are on your list. Maybe you can also get a job based here, even if also fully remote, which should pay more due to the higher cost of living and to attract talent etc
Doable. It will take some time to find a place you like.
Also consider pick up another remote job.
Would LIC be a good place to search for first NYC apartment?

Again it depends what you want — if you want a new construction building with in-unit washer/dryer and a dishwasher, maybe not. But if you’re fine with just a regular apartment, there’s definitely stuff for $3000. Check StreetEasy. Brokers are a thing but I’d really suggest avoiding that fee unless you’re pretty sure you’re going to stay in the place for several years.
