About to apply for an apt that’s asking for a $2000 good faith deposit. I’m still a little undecided about the apartment (I have another option in Jersey) Do I wait it out or just go ahead & apply? Honestly don’t know if I’ll feel 100% sure any time soon. First time living in NY & first time renting post college😭😭

Good faith deposit? No no no. Tour/Apply, gain approval, then give the deposit. They should see based on your application you are able to provide the necessary funds to pay the deposit. Once you want to move forward then you pay. Have you toured the apartment?

This is the correct answer. The words faith and Real Estate Agent should never be included in the same sentence.

Where is this apartment located? Living in NJ as a new grad won’t give you the same experience as living in NYC. Depends what you’re looking for

C1: why can’t you agree that different people have different priorities lol.

Is this through Nooklyn by any chance? I did a good faith deposit since that’s their process or whatever. I was kinda like ehhhh. But I liked the apartment and the deposit goes towards move in costs (first month and security deposit) so I was like whatever, fine. Moved in recently and I’m happy with my choice. That’s just my personal experience though.

it’s not Nooklyn!

Are you a “Prodigious Accumulator of Wealth”?

N = 10% x (Your Age) x (Your Salary)

If your net worth is 0.5N or less then you are an under accumulator; around 1.0N then you average; 2.0N or greater then you are prodigious.

This is the millionaire next door formula.

Have an acquaintance who is a single mom; she purchased a used car 3 mos ago. Six wks later her 17yo wrecked it, air bags deployed, and estimates have ranged between $10-$18k in needed repairs while $21k is still owed. Acquaintance was switching insurance policies and flubbed the coverage dates and there were a few days where the vehicle was uninsured. No GAP insurance. I'm not seeing many options for her besides to continue pmts, fixing just enough to drive or voluntary repo. Thoughts?

I find it intriguing that Trump turned himself into a billionaire on his father’s investments. Then, he became President. Suddenly, all of the people he’s been doing business becoming a billionaire are now also billionaires fighting for the Trillionaire Club status. His net worth is probably going to surpass them all in the end. Quadrillionaire isn’t even in my keyboard’s dictionary yet...but it will be soon.

What other cards to add to my collection? I have AmEx Platinum and Chase Sapphire Reserve. Fly Delta so AmEx is handy for lounges. Use Sapphire for dining/travel. Should I add Chase Freedom Unlimited?

I’m in a little of a pickle but a good one. Offer A. Established “start up” doing well financially and projected to hit profitability. 130k base. Stocks offered, unlimited PTO, and 70% Medical covered. Offer B. Is at a business much larger…90k salary with 10% bonus and generous stock offering. Titles are different which is why the pay is much different. I know some may think it is a no brainer but offer A allows me to grow the department ground up whereas offer B id be apart of to just different

Additional Posts in New York City

Saw someone asking about high-rise apartments in Mott Haven earlier. Just moved into a new apartment building here and honestly it’s not as bad as I thought. New buildings are safe and pretty spacious (relatively speaking). Downside is not really much to do around this area and food delivery is not great. Hope this is helpful for any one who is looking at this area.
