Why would you do that? The preferred will still run you $95 per year, while reserve has the $300 travel/grocery credit to offset the yearly fee. I m sticking with my CSR
Believe you can downgrade to a non-fee sapphire as well
You can downgrade to the regular sapphire that doesn't have a fee. But do you not think you will spend enough on your sapphire to break even on the fee (which I consider to be $150 since I easily ear up all of the $300 travel credit)
Try calling for a retention offer. Plenty of data points for $150-$250 in statement credits. Worst case is they say no. It’s just a few minutes of your time.
1. Call for retention
2. If no retention, use your credits (Travel, DoorDash)
3. Cash in as many pts as you want use Pay Yourself Back
4. Downgrade to the card of your choice and your annual fee refund will be prorated (consider moving to the Freedom Flex if you think you'd take advantage of the rotating categories)
5. When ready, upgrade your card back to the CSR
CSR is my oldest card. When you downgrade, does it keep that credit line the same or does it count as a new card? Just for credit score purposes
Yeah, the phone agents aren't going to willingly want to help you take advantage of Chase again to get another bonus. You'll have to do the research and leg work.
In a similar spot. My plan is to downgrade to the Freedom Unlimited unless they hit me with a fat retention offer. Got the CSR nearly 4 years ago so should be able to quality for it again in the future at some point ideally.
You can get the signup off again 4 years from when you last received it (it's not based on when you signed up).
