Currently working in big4 in real estate tax looking to make a move to big law. Curious to see if anyone has insight on how tax work in big law is different than big 4. I current does lots of research and writing l, structuring, REIT, partnership tax and a big of M&A. I really like what I am doing here but want to see if I can learn more in a big law setting (many partners came from big law). Much appreciated if you can provide any insight!

Reseach and structuring are not so different, but the biggest difference comes from drafting and negotiating legal agreements, which you cannot get experience at big 4

Thanks for your reply. I assume you are working in a law firm - do you enjoy the drafting/negotiating aspect of your work? I personally prefer looking into technical details which is why I love tax law

I can't assist with your questions, but I'm trying to learn more about real estate tax. Are you LLM? The work seems varied. How did you get into real estate tax? Do you deal with international tax issues in that area?

Hi Editors!
What did your transition from AE to editor look like?

5 months ago I joined an advertising post house as a full-time AE. Through the support of a lead editor at the company I found my way into making cuts for the company’s most prestigious client. At this point, I’ve been the sole editor of one global campaign and a co-editor of another, in addition to cutting many social media videos. It’s only 5 months but I can’t help feel that my title doesn’t reflect the work I actually do.

I recently lateraled into Big Law. Most of my colleagues are homegrown. My shift did involve a big change in practice area, and there's work that I haven't done before that I now have to do.

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around. And I have seen my colleagues getting annoyed by that. It's like I've become dumb. In my defence, I could say they're giving half assed instructions.

Has anyone dealt with stuffing allocation in a non-hedge fund context? It seems even in the HF world the law is fuzzy in using aggregate reverse 704c principles in stuffing allocations.
