How much are you offering to pay for it?

No.
Sure but you’re paying my full day rate
Not a writer but i’ve done a design test in an interview and was paid $200
I was offered it but didn’t end up accepting. It was honestly an hours work in the interview process so $200 wasn’t bad.
“During”? Literally?
No.
No
Agency side? Hell no.
Most brand-sides? Nah.
Tech? Unfortunately, it's becoming the norm. So, yes.
Not a copywriter, BUT…
I’d ask them to either sign my freelance contract or sign a contract stating that anything created on this test is my IP and cannot be used until at least 3 months after my employment at the agency. Probably throw in some lingo about being credited for the work if it’s produced and being able to show it in my book.
If they sign one or the other, I know what they’re looking for, and how they currently operate. If they sign neither and end the interview…oh well, on to the next interview.
When I see copy test I see huge waste of time.

I did it twice when I was interviewing in the Bay area. Seems to be a tech/start up thing because the work was more support and way BTL than conceptual.
Lolololololol
No. If yes, then they need to pay your freelance day rate. Otherwise you’re setting a bad precedent with them.
No. It sets the wrong tone for the whole job.
No
Sure. If you want me to think you’re some hack startup.
