35 cases currently. I have no idea what I'd need if I was a solo. It really depends on the type of case. This year my cases have ranged from $3,000 to $300,000 in terms of cost to the client to reach a resolution.
257. I could make my salary on 40. I am trying hard to gtfo this firm.
I have 120 personal injury cases. If someone handed me 5 cases a month, mixture of medium to low value, I could make a good living as a solo.
The lead service agencies are very expensive and generally return is poor. You can’t really just dip your toes in and expect even slightly decent cases. Just like how Google ad words for personal injury is impossible unless you have a big marketing budget
This thread seems to be assuming these are hourly files. Contingency practice (which is what many solo practices live on) is a totally different ballgame.
Yep. I work on contingency (not PI). If I opened my own practice, I could do really well with half my current caseload. That would be 25-30 cases at any given time and I’d be fine.

So hard to answer this question. Replacing salary is one thing, but if you went out on your own, there would overhead to account for too. Probably half my file count.

Yeah, so you've got to calculate your overhead in addition to any salary you might pay yourself to get the total amount you'd need to clear, and that will inform how many files you'd need to cover it. And of course, that assumes your clients will pay timely.
