I would get out now. Don’t wait till manager if you already want to get out now before senior. Life is too short to be miserable for another 4 years
Look at job postings for the type of thing you’d want to do. You’ll see a lot of them want the general experience you get in public combined with role specific experience. Someone who did three years in public and two years in a certain role are often better positioned than someone with five years of general experience except when looking at positions in, say, internal audit or external reporting.
PwC1 is right. Don’t listen to “put in the time” drivel. This is not Rikers. That’s like someone getting an Associate’s degree in basket weaving and sticking around for a doctorate in basket weaving would make you more impressive.
Get the title. Ideally, stick it out til manager. Looks a damn sight more impressive on a resume when you make the leap
But when you make the leap as manager, what roles can you get? Don’t you pigeon-hole yourself?
