How much does a support advisor make at shopify?
AWS cloud application architect. Had an on-site interview with AWS a few days ago and just got an email saying they want to talk to me about next steps. The role is cloud application architect but I want to ask them about the senior cloud application architect role. I have all the relevant experience for that role and feel like I’d be a better fit for that senior role. How should I approach this conversation? Is this even possible? Amazon

Wow NASA! Imagine business trips could be a rocket ship 🚀 to ISS or the moon 😆
Good luck
Private space will still want you, possibly even more if you work at NASA first. Worst case scenario you go private after a couple of years. Regardless of which company is the most successful space company in the future, NASA will always have the legacy factor.
If you invest $70k wisely for just a few years, that will turn into multi millions down the road.
Can you negotiate the pay?
Take what gives you career growth and satisfaction.
Between 100 and 170., You are not going to be homeless in either case. Plus it depends on where you are living with either offer.
Just my 2 cents. Take it or leave it.
I am not debating it.
Does that 100k include COLA? COLA won't make up the 70k difference but it will add more to the paycheck at the end of the day. A lot of the other commenters gave great advice regarding which way to go depending on how far along your career you are. As a Mech E turned PM I will say you'll have to decide which part of a project you like more - the technical aspect or the people aspect. I always liked the latter and went the PM route. I haven't touched a CAD station in four years, but I'm very happy with my choice. If you still have a lot of interest in the technical side of things take the engineering gig. Once you get to Sr or Staff Engineer level, you'll be acting as a PM anyway. You just won't have control of the budget :-P.
The difference in pay is too much to ignore.
Nasa has a prestige name but it ain't paying the bills one. Two it's a massive gap in pay. It makes a difference. Evaluate your financials and see. Maybe work one year at NASA then bounce. But also I haven't heard of NASA working on anything wild as of late compare the work if that's what your into. Make a list of pros and cons. Good luck my friend.

NASA isn't as great as they make it out to be in the movies
NASA is great, but you will probably not get what you want out of it. Yes, you will get to meet astronauts and see amazing things, but the downside is… It’s a government organization. You will be restricted by that fact alone.
NASA! eventually your salary will get better, but the experience you will gain can’t be gain in many places. Can you maybe tell them you are getting offered $170k in another job?
