D S&O. You'll be treated as a second class citizen to the IB people at Goldman
I went from GS Market Risk to PwC. Middle office sucks and is not valued. Bonuses suck. I don’t regret my decision at all
Stay at S&O. Been in non Front office at bank and agree with above - you’re a second rate citizen compared to the bankers
Only exception is if you are in a great team, in NYC, you have a chance to move to FO (Strats, Asset Management)
And when it comes to business school applications, you don't want to give the impression that you are at Goldman but weren't cut out to be a banker. Always put yourself in a position where you are the main revenue generator and not a support function
OP, if business school is your final goal, then either is fine, if anything goldman might have an edge because of the brand name and all the special projects/extracurricular you'll be able to do in ops. As for career moves, you can move to securities or asset management divisions by networking. I haven't really heard of ops to IB. Overall, I say do goldman ops if you're supporting an exciting desk/have room for special projs. Source: interned in goldman ops, do consulting now
Thanks for the responses everyone! Going to find out more for the position, then see if it makes sense. I love Deloitte and am quite happy here, and I feel that Deloitte has given me every opportunity to succeed. My friend who's working with recruiting for GS hit me up for the role so not sure how to politely decline it if it came to that
D S&O or PE
I'm thinking that as well A1. Should just be patient
PWC1, don't have any PE offers or interest at the time. Option was to stay in S&O (I'm only at the C level) or to make the move to middle office GS
IB analysts reallllly look at ops folks in their office as garbage or "civilians" . You won't like that feeling coming from the "cool" part of Deloitte
Don't know too much about S&O but I feel that most of the projects we do in FS are still related to a bank's middle and back office even though we're front office as consultants. Wouldn't you still be doing the same if you move to GS?
Nobody care in the long run OP
Where are you now OP?
