I'm still confused by your question after rereading it 5 times. What is the scenario and why do you want to bill these miles?
I am very sure about the 2x distance: Expense fraud!
No. Don't be ridiculous.
I think he is asking if he can charge 20 miles for his trip and 20 miles for his SO's return trip. No, you can't do that pal
Go for it.
Just charge the mileage. It's in lieu of taking a taxi so don't think anyone will say anything. Not sure about the 2x distance though
You're talking about like $20...why is this a question?
How are some of you consultants. Good Lord.
So my commute to the office is 37 miles and my commute to the airport is 20 miles. I can't charge anything. If the situation was reversed I could charge 17 miles each way, butttt I don't. I only charge parking.
Thanks for the inputs all. Very helpful!
I hope these are hypothetical numbers. Whether you bill 20 or 40 miles it is a drop in the bucket to overall fees. If someone is watching the expenses that tightly then you have bigger problems.
Just hit them for an uber black and let your SO sleep in / relax. The problem is going to be in the actual mileage report if you get audited - if you report your trip to the airport (first 20 miles) you are fine. If you report your SO's return (second 20) on the next line down, but you are supposed to be on an airplane and couldn't have driven those miles, you are lying on your expenses. It probably would never get noticed, but if somebody caught it you'd have a lot to answer for.
He wants his fiancée to be able to get reimbursed for the drive home after dropping him off at the airport. Don't know why that is confusing so many people.
I live 20 miles from airport and my SO drops me to the airport. Can I change mileage of 40 hrs for the one way travel?
Where is your office? Technically, You may charge the difference between your home to normal office commute and your home to airport miles.
agree D4. I was more wondering what the policy is. Even if I charge the 2x miles, I am charging less than 50% of what I would pay for an Uber .. so still cheaper to the client.
My rule of thumb is if it's cheaper I bill it regardless of policy. Can't imagine anyone would complain if you bill outside of policy but under the cost of your other options.
Agree with DD1. Enjoy the luxury of Uber black and avoid the problem
Oh you want to be able to charge the miles your SO drives back? Fuck no you aren't allowed to do that. Two trips, that's it.
Why don't u want to just uber?
