Yeah for sure. Any place you're surrounded by negativity is toxic by definition. My version is a restaurant with bad managers. Nasty coworkers can make work unpleasant, terrible managers can do a whole lot worse.
That sounds awful. Is upper management aware that she behaves like that? Businesses need to pay way more attention to who they are promoting, because the wrong manager can destroy a good culture overnight.
Absolutely! Unhappy employees or just burnt out.
Nothing worse than negativity in the work place
That definitely sounds toxic. When gossip and relationships start affecting service and teamwork, it’s crossed the line. You deserve a place where people leave the drama behind the kitchen door so you can focus on customers without all that noise. Maybe start looking elsewhere? Cuz you can't change all your coworkers for sure.
I think it comes down to respect. If a place treats its customers with respect (good food at good prices) and workers/co-workers with respect (professionalism, being thoughtful while still expecting good work), it's good environment. It's not as common as it should be but respect should be the north star when evaluating a potential employer.
The higher ups in HR and the corporate office need to take staff complaints seriously. Reporting a toxic manager can put a target on your back. It’s not very hard to figure out who has issues with that manager because everybody’s business is always out there. Who argued with that manager last? It actually makes that employees daily job very stressful not to mention fear of retaliation. Even if they do an investigation and ask other employee, they aren’t gonna go against their boss! Plus, you look like an employee that’s “difficult“ and HR is only there to protect the company and their assets.
