^ that’s what she said!
As a SC, I will go back for 40 lakhs
Sorry guys, I did not mean to keep this exclusive for Directors and senior managers. I put that caveat more from a salary standpoint. The trade-off is let’s say $200K + bonus in US vs a 60 lac fixed + 20 lac stock based comp at a FAANG
The math is usually ~40% of your US comp ( few exceptions) .... so 80L ($120K) translates to about 250-300k of US comp... which seems a comparable pay for one to consider the offer ... alternatively you can compare against India director pay and benchmark ... from a cost of living it seems decent enough pay ... you will be eligible for a 3 to 4 Cr loan ( should get a good house in any city ).. if I were you , I would be taking the offer...
I could live and work in the US if I wanted to. However, my quality of life is so much better in India. My daughter is growing roots in her culture and imbibing our values from spending quality time with her grandparents and aunts and uncles. It will make her so much more confident going out into the world. I love the Waldorf school that she goes to, private education is affordable and so is healthcare even without medical insurance. There is no threat of gun violence, there are beautiful parks in the middle of the city, air quality is not a problem. On top of all that we have so much free time to do the things we want to do as a family— thanks to having household help, cook, driver, gardener etc.
EY1, that’s precisely what I am trying to understand. I looked at an online salary comparator - for whatever it’s worth..and it said an 80L comp in India is equivalent to $400K in US. Hard to believe that but I think you feel richer with 80L in India than say $220K here.
Ok, just to be sure - I meant 80 lacs in total comp not base salary.
I would go in a heartbeat if I had that kind of offer when I am D. But I know you are not looking answers people less than D’s.
Curious to know- FAANG in India value US Consulting experience and they provide such a high salary for foreign returns ? I thought that Indian market is so diff compared to the US market, and that’s why they don’t value US experience as much as we want them to be..
Where's the offer for me to sign??
@M1, most product companies in India pays high salaries. It’s only the IT service sector that do not pay much
80L is not really an offer worth uprooting and moving cross continent over, at the D level. Something in the range of 1.2cr is more worth the risk
I would take it, it’s a solid package
EY1 - you still have to deal with the traffic and infrastructure. But life would be easier - never have to drive (unless you want to), don’t have to do any chores and closer to family. If you can adjust with some of the shortcomings, the upsides are huge.
Actually it depends. Both myself and my husband work at FAANG companies in the Bay Area and both of us make >2x of what we would’ve made in consulting. I made the move from D myself last year and my offer was exactly 2x higher than my total comp at the time and grown a lot since then.
Don’t forget about stock comp which can be higher than your base at these companies.
PWC OP.... a lot of companies are easily paying those comps in India now..
I think a Tenured SM or D would be anyways making about that figure in India .
Hmm... I would add to OP’s question. What about lifestyle change ?
D2, you are right. I am not saying it’s out of the world salary or anything. I am just weighing the two options I have on hand to make a decision and hoping this fraternity could help.
Will you and your family be able to adapt back. 60L base is good but not extraordinarily tempting to leave 200k here.
I heard from one of the PwC Offshore persons (and friend from deloitte for that matter) that director (entry level) salary range starts from ~35 lacs. Still surprised that FAANG can pay almost double to that. My stats are for Tech Consulting. Not sure if you are referring to directors who do strategy work.
On a diff note-
We all talk about lifestyle, water and air quality etc. But, when brexit happened, bunch of my senior managers went back to India from UK given that UK did not seem to be a viable option anymore for financial advancement.. so, I would assume if VISA issues continue like this, and you have solid offer in hand back at home, you would most likely go back..
M1 Managing Director entry level salary is in the 1Cr range, not 35 lakhs. That’s a M level band
